Join us for one of six fabulous Wednesday Workshops! Each workshop will run from 1pm to 4.30pm in Ballarat (just near the Crafty Squirrel HQ). All materials you need will be provided and a delicious afternoon tea too.

Class sizes are kept small to provide lots of opportunity for one-on-one instruction with a minimum of 6 participants required for each class to run. If minimum numbers are not met the class date will change.

SOLD OUT 25 September 2024 – Coptic Book Binding with Jenny Peers: $160 per person
Learn how to make a beautiful soft-covered book using traditional Coptic stitch and quality paper. All materials will be supplied, and no experience is necessary. Jenny Peers is a local Ballarat artist who has taught bookbinding to many people who always make a book they are proud of. Kits will be available to purchase on the day so that you can make more books at home.

SOLD OUT 14 August 2024 - Mizuhiki Knotting with Anna Japana: $125 per person
Learn the art of tying knots - Japan style! The core of the Mizuhiki cord is twisted paper and then dyed or wrapped with coloured thread, then knotted into shapes. This technique has been used for centuries for gift-giving decorations and in modern times for jewellery or decorative items.

SOLD OUT 17 July 2024 - Cherry Blossom inspired necklace/brooch Workshop with Andrea from Bittern By the Bug: $115 per person
Make a hand stitched cherry blossom inspired necklace or brooch using an assortment of lovely Japanese fabrics. Everything you need will be provided for you to create your one of a kind hand stitched jewellery. Andrea has been stitching, making and teaching in the Japanese style for the last 20 years.

Next date TBC - Temari Ball Workshop with Melissa Scott from The Finders Daughter
Temari have been traditionally stitched in Japan for generations. Once made by women and given as gifts in the new year, the craft has now become popular around the world. In this workshop you will learn the basic skills to hand-stitch your own Temari to take home. A pattern suitable for beginners will be taught so all skill levels are welcome. All materials will be provided including threads, needle and ball for you to create your own delightful Temari to give as a gift or keep yourself!

Next date TBC - Beginners Sashiko Workshop with Morgan Wills from The Crafty Squirrel
Are you looking for a new crafty hobby? Want to try sashiko stitching but not quite sure where to start? Morgan Wills from the Crafty Squirrel will show you how to get started and inspire you to give it a go! You will learn how to prepare a traditional hana fukin (literally ‘kitchen cloth or flower cloth’) which is a practical and decorative sashiko embroidered fabric cloth found in Japanese households.

Next date TBC - Beginners Crochet Workshop with Ros Deagan
Never picked up a crochet hook, not a problem. Come along for a fun filled day of crochet learning and guidance. Begin to understand basic stitches, pattern reading and start your first project. Ros has been crocheting since she was a child and loves nothing better than sharing and passing on her skills. Attendees will receive a crochet hook, a crochet sample, stitch markers and darning needle. Non beginners are also welcome!

Next date TBC - Boro Workshop with Morgan Wills from The Crafty Squirrel
Join in the freedom of stitching in the Japanese "boro" style (boro refers to the practice of reworking and repairing textiles (often clothes or bedding) through piecing, patching and stitching, in order to extend their use.) Morgan will provide all the materials for you to have fun and stitch a zip purse or you can create your own stitchery to use as a cushion or on a bag. Slow stitching at it's best. Morgan was taught the art of "Zaku Zaku" (crazy stitching!) by Nono ichi Sensei at the now closed Blue & White in Tokyo.
